    Together with his Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling teammates, David de la Cruz spent 14 days training and sleeping at altitude in Sierra Nevada, Spain, in preparation for the Giro d’Italia. As winter conditions extended deep into Spring across Europe, the already complex scenario of moving from across highly varied conditions and microclimates that training at altitude often consists of, were accentuated. Curious as to how riders were adapting to days 6+ hour days in the saddle with temperature changes of over 15°C, we asked the highly experienced David de la Cruz to document the way in which he used the full range of Q36.5’s equipment, from Clima socks to Dottore Termico jacket to Dottore Hyrbid Que to Gregarius Pro Short Sleeve jersey over the course of the camp…

    • Challenge of dressing for two completely different climates. One for the cold starts, the other for training in the middle of the day, once you have descended from altitude
    • Plan was to have the ‘spring’ outfit for training all ready, and the necessary winter pieces layered over the top to then be taken off
    • For the cold start, needed the vampire and Termico gloves.
    • Once the descent is done, removes the leg warmers, toe covers, neck warmer and the vampire

    • Today was really shit weather, wore than what the forecast said it was going to be
    • Weather made worse by the rain and the fog in the descent, making it more challenging
    • First time I’ve needed to descend dressed so heavily
    • Layered the Termico on top of the Hybrid Que
    • Once down in the valley the weather was still bad, but a bit less cold, therefore took off the leg warmers and Termico jacket for these efforts
    • The temperature difference between the summit and valley can be as much as 10 degrees so changes in outfit are necessary

    Dottore Termico jacket: As this was the coldest conditions of the camp to date, it was necessary to wear the most extreme jacket in the offering. When we descended down it was really cold and only when down in the valley and training on the flats was it warm enough to open the jacket partly, and then ultimately remove and put it in the car.
