A new Foul Weather racing system

The biggest shared technical goal of Q36.5 and Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team at the beginning of the 2025 season was to create a system of racing-specific garments for wet and cold conditions. Finally available to the public, the Foul Weather System is the result of this collaboration.

Engineered to be the lightest layer in a professional rider’s rain system - perfect for explosive final kms of a Belgian Classic or an epic Giro d’Italia breakaway – the Rain Shell Aero Jersey is a 3L, double membrane, waterproof jersey. Nicknamed “condom” by riders from Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team thanks to its perfectly snug and aero fit, the Rain Shell Aero Jersey is not only waterproof but also features a unique Quick Dry frame coating on the inner face of the fabric in order to improve moisture management and wicking process, making sure the rider does not become “wet from the inside” as is often the case with similar style of products. Other special features include the oversize 8mm waterproof zip for maximum reliability and ease of use and a new “Race Fit” block to ensure perfect wrinkle-free aero fit. Inspired by the needs of Pro riders to remain warm and cosy during wet days in the peloton where intensities can remain low, making it difficult to stay warm, the Vampire Shell Jacket is an ultralight aero-fit fleece-lined rain jacket. Featuring fully taped external seams, a 10.000mm water column waterproof membrane bonded to our ultralight Air Insulation and a extra long hermetic collar (from which the jacket takes its name), the Vampire is the ideal jacket for long kilometres in cold rain at variable intensities or just an ultrafast winter training jacket for riders who love to continue feel explosive deep into winter months. As with all our Foul Weather system the jacket features our new Race Fit block to ensure perfect wrinkle-free aero fit. The Rain Shell Plus is the ultimate cold wet weather jacket, perfect for Pros (who must ride in any conditions) or local heroes for whom Bad Weather Changes Nothing. Based on our award-winning Rain Shell, the most waterproof jacket in our range, the Rain Shell Plus features the same 20 000mm water column membrane and ultralight external nylon face but with the addition of body-mapped ultralight Air Insulation on the frontal parts of arm and chest for essential protection to most exposed parts of the body. Other new special features include an external mesh pocket and, as with all our Foul Weather system, our new Race Fit block to ensure perfect wrinkle-free aero fit. In-Race research

Combining the insights of riders and our own ongoing research we created over 15 new unique prototypes for this system featuring different weights and positioning of fleece, different shapes and fits, different kinds of membranes and ventilation systems, all within the first two months of the season. After a further intense period of re-prototyping and testing at early season Northern Classics such as Omloop Het Nieuwbald and Tirreno-Adriatico, together with key riders from the team we defined the 3 core components of our system to be issued to all riders:

Rain Shell Aero Jersey (final kms, or breakaway)
Vampire Shell Jacket (mid race)
Rain Shell Plus (early race or extreme conditions)

Rain Shell Aero Jersey

The Rain Shell Aero jersey is double-membrane aerodynamic waterproof jersey engineered to be used in the last kms (or breakaway) of wet races, where the rider needs to be as aerodynamic and explosive as possible. It was used successfully by Tom Pidock in the last kilometres of his Fleche Vallone podium (for the first part of the race he wore the Vampire) as well as Pidcock and his teammates during wet stages of the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España.

The jersey’s distinguishing feature is its superior moisture management: the most common defect of similar jerseys is the accumulation of moisture inside the jacket, canceling the waterproof benefits of the membrane. To achieve this superior level of moisture management the two membranes on the outer surface are combined with a special coating on the inner side that ensures that moisture is distributed evenly across the entire inner surface of the jersey, accelerating the wicking process.

Vampire Shell Jacket

Inspired by observations made by Tom Pidcock on the difficulty in staying warm during long, cold, wet hours in the middle of the peloton where intensities can remain low for longer periods, the Vampire Shell Jacket is specifically designed to keep the Professional rider warm in wet race conditions at varying intensities.

It is distinguished by its 3L construction, ultralight thermal fleece lining, superior breathability (making it suitable for the varying intensities a rider will encounter during 5-hour classics), hermetic collar design and race fit.

Rain Shell Plus Jacket

The ultimate outer layer for training or racing in poor conditions, especially at the beginning of the race. The Rain Shell Plus is built on the base of the Rain Shell, the most waterproof jacket in the Q36.5 range, with the most advanced membrane that will keep the rider dry for the longest amount of time.

To this proven high-performance classic we have added a body-mapped ultralight insulation guaranteeing the rider’s comfort and health even during long days of unrelenting cold rain.
