Research&Daring Questionnaire: Alexis Skarda

alexis-skarda-off-road-endurance

As a bike racer what percentage of yourself would you define as research-driven (scientific approach, attention to technical details etc.) and what percentage daring (emotions, gut instincts, heart)?

I’d say I’m about 60% heart and instinct, 40% research-driven. I race with intuition, but years of experience racing endurance and being on detail oriented teams have taught me the value of preparation, data and equipment choices. Together, instinct and science make me a stronger, more consistent rider.

What is the part of your technical preparation that you are most passionate about (nutrition, the discipline, bike setup, aerodynamics, bike weight etc. etc.)?

When it comes to technical preparation, I’m most passionate about bike fit and weight. Comfort and efficiency are everything for long races. A well fitted bike lets me ride harder, longer and stay injury free.

How would you define your racing personality and style?

My racing style is aggressive and committed. I like to go hard, especially on the climbs, and thrive when the effort is demanding and honest.

What is your favourite race and why?

One of my favorite races I’ve done is Cape Epic. Stage racing is a mix of strategy, endurance and adventure. I love the unforgiving terrain, stunning scenery and how the multi-day hard racing pushes your limits.

Where is your favourite place to train and why?

For training, I love training in my hometown, Boulder Colorado. The elevation and variety of terrain makes every ride interesting. There are plenty of long climbs and open roads to keep things interesting and the cycling community keeps me motivated.

What is your performance ambition for 2026?

My goal for 2026 is to put together a solid season and be consistently strong throughout the year to compete for the Lifetime Grand Prix Overall.

What are the most challenging racing conditions you expect to encounter in 2026? What race is going to demand the most from your Q6.5 clothing? (eg. Heat at World’s in Australia?)

Unbound Gravel will be a good test. That’s a race where comfort is vital. It’s long hours in the saddle with some years bringing heat, rain, wind, and dust. Clothing makes a difference. Overheating, chills or chafing can sneak up fast and affect performance. .

alexis-skarda-cycling-season-2026

What are the conditions (racing and training) in which you have struggled with most in the past few years from the point of view of clothing? (eg. Poor moisture management in winter on hilly rides, overheating in summer, unsatisfactory aerodynamics of race kit in flat races etc.)

Q36.5 feels engineered for performance and longevity. They feel solid like they won’t wear out as quickly as other companies.

How would you describe Q36.5 relative to other on-bike clothing you have used before?

The jersey fits perfectly and keeps me comfortable no matter the weather. The bibs stretch in all the right places, the waistband is supportive and doesn’t press in like a lot of other bibs might. The straps don’t pull on my shoulders. Everything fits comfortably.

What’s your current favourite Q36.5 item and why?

I’m a fan of it all! This off season has given me the opportunity to test out the winter gear. I’m impressed with how well the rain shell and gloves work to keep me dry even in heavy rain. All of the bass layers are super soft and stretch.
